John Terry: First sustained knee injury in FA Cup win over Portsmouth

Chelsea captain John Terry will not be involved in his club's Premier League match against Swansea due to a knee injury.

The England defender, who on Wednesday is due to appear at West London Magistrates Court for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, has not travelled to Wales with the rest of his team-mates ahead of Tuesday's match.
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has revealed Terry has been carrying the injury for the majority of the month after he sustained the problem in the FA Cup win over Portsmouth on 8th January.
On Monday, the defender had to end training ahead of schedule and the centre-back's absence adds to an injured list which already includes Ramires, Frank Lampard and John Mikel Obi.

"It's nothing serious, but something to keep an eye on. He has had an MRI before and he should be okay for Man United."

Villas-Boas has confirmed Terry will be missing at the Liberty Stadium, but with the England skipper having undergone MRI scans, the Chelsea boss is confident the player will be available for Sunday's match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Nothing serious

Terry's absence against Swansea could mean a debut for £7million man Gary Cahill, who earlier in January was signed from Bolton, alongside David Luiz.
"It's just a bone oedema that he has been carrying for some time since he collided with a post, if I am not wrong against Portsmouth, and this stops him a little bit," Villas-Boas told Chelsea TV of Terry.
"It's nothing serious, but something to keep an eye on. He has had an MRI before and he should be okay for Man United.
"We have a lot of positions covered of course, because of our squad, we have Gary and David available and competing and hopefully we can make the right decision."
Ramires was carried off during Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup win against Queens Park Rangers with medial ligament damage and is expected to be out for three to four weeks.

Rehabilitation

"It's unfortunate for the team, Rami is one of the most used players of the team with excellent individual performance and always helping the team to get results," said Villas-Boas.
"With what could have happened, it's just good news that he will be out for a short amount of time. Hopefully he will be available for the Napoli game, and hopefully before.
"On another front, Mikel will be out of the game and Lamps still out of the game.
"Frank's rehabilitation is going well, we are trying to reintroduce him gradually to the first-team activities.
"Frank felt that it was still a little bit soon to come back and went on to work with the physios, so hopefully after Swansea we will get him ready for the Man United game."
