Forest confirm Bamford bid

Cotterill keen to sign new defender to replace departed Morgan

Steve Cotterill: Nottingham Forest boss has confirmed Chelsea have bid for Patrick Bamford

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cotterill has confirmed Chelsea have made a £1.5million bid for teenage striker Patrick Bamford.
The 18-year-old has made just two substitute appearances during his Forest career, but is wanted by Premier League giants Chelsea.
He has also attracted interest from other clubs and Cotterill is to discuss the matter with the club's board as he does not expect Bamford to sign a new deal at the City Ground
"There has been a bid for him from Chelsea, it is for £1.5m," said Cotterill in the Nottingham Evening Post. "The problem we have is that Patrick has been offered a couple of contracts now.
"And I am not sure Patrick will sign a new contract at Nottingham Forest.
"We are going to have a meeting to decide where that goes. What materialises, we will find out shortly."

Nonsensical

Ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline, Cotterill is also hoping to bring in a new defender following the departure of Wes Morgan to rivals Leicester City.
He added: "Signings do not always drop in the order that you would like them to.
"Ideally, as Wes leaves, you would like a central defender to fall in to place. That has been very difficult, to get another central defender in or even another defender of any type.
"There is a shortage of them, at this moment in time. Or at least a shortage of players who are available.
"Trying to get away with the defenders that we have had has been nonsensical. We can't get away with that. We have to try very hard to get somebody, before the window closes."

Milan land Blues youngster

Prosenik makes move to Italy from Chelsea

AC Milan have snapped up teenage Austrian striker Philipp Prosenik from Chelsea after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
Prosenik joined Chelsea in the summer of 2009 from Rapid Vienna when he was just 16, in what was seen as a considerable transfer coup for the Blues.
The youngster had been linked with a host of top European clubs prior to completing his move to Stamford Bridge, and after continuing his development in London for a couple of years he has been given the opportunity to embark on a fresh challenge under Massimiliano Allegri at Milan.
A statement from Milan read: "Philipp Prosenik's contract has been deposited with the Lega Serie A."
Now 18, Austria Under 19 international Prosenik is the son of former Austria international Christian Prosenik.

Genk confirm De Bruyne sale

Five-and-a-half-year deal signed

Belgian champions Genk have confirmed that their winger Kevin De Bruyne has completed his move to Chelsea.
The 20-year-old has long been linked with a move to the West London giants and saw a deal fail to materialise in the summer.
But Chelsea maintained an interest and have now sealed the move, which will see the youngster stay with Genk on loan until the end of the season.
Genk revealed that De Bruyne put pen-to-paper early on Tuesday morning, signing a contract that commits him to the club until 2017.
Genk have not confirmed the fee, but it is believed that the deal is worth around £7million.

Pleased

De Bruyne admitted he was delighted to have finally sealed the move, telling Chelsea's website: "Yes, it's a little bit of a dream come true.
"I've worked very hard and am still very young but have already played a lot of games. To come to a team like Chelsea is a dream but now it's a reality and I have to work hard to achieve the level that's necessary.
"In the beginning it was a little bit strange to play in such a big stadium but after a while you don't think about it. It is a nice stadium and the atmosphere was very good."
He confirmed he was more than happy to spend the rest of the season back on loan at Genk before being loaned out again next season.
"I signed now and now I will go back for six months on loan to play some games and gain more experience," he said.
"Next season it would be normal to be loaned out, but I will start the preparations here at Cobham, and if it goes really well maybe I will stay but probably it will be a team a little level less than Chelsea but bigger than Genk."

Swansea: Bodde
Chelsea: Terry, Ramires, Mikel

Referee: Kevin Friend

Sky Bet odds: Swansea 3/1, Draw 12/5, Chelsea 20/21

Opta stat: Swansea have committed fewer fouls than any other team in the Premier League (187). Chelsea have lost just one of their last 10 Premier League games (W5 D4 L1).
Swansea City will be looking to build upon their impressive home record when they tackle Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers' side have won more games at home than Liverpool and have conceded six league goals in 11 fixtures.
Swansea are imperious at the Liberty having lost once in 19 games, although the Blues are unbeaten in six away from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea secured a 4-1 win over the Welsh side earlier in the campaign. Fernando Torres scored and was sent off in the contest.
Torres has made 11 league appearances since without scoring while the fixture also sees Blues old-boy Scott Sinclair face his former club.
The 22-year-old spent five years with the Blues and featured 14 times after joining from Bristol Rovers as a 16-year-old.

Swansea news

Swansea are expected to restore a host of players to their line-up having opted to make changes for the FA Cup exit at Bolton.
Swansea and Manchester City are the only sides not to have suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats this season, but the Welsh side will need to avoid losing to the Blues to maintain that record.
First-choice keeper Michel Vorm will be restored in goal while Neil Taylor should return at left-back ahead of Fede Bessone.
Wingers Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer are expected to start along with Joe Allen and passing machine Leon Britton.
Swansea's on-loan midfielder Josh McEachran is unavailable for selection against his parent club.
Blues news
Chelsea will travel to South Wales without John Terry after the England captain was ruled out by a knee injury.
That means £7million January signing Gary Cahill should make his debut for the club alongside Brazilian David Luiz at the heart of defence.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas has midfield issues to contend with after Ramires damaged knee ligaments in their weekend FA Cup win over QPR.
He joins Jon Obi Mikel on the sidelines while veteran Frank Lampard is rated at only 50-50 to face the club he played for on loan some 17 years ago.
The Blues have completed the signing of midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, although the 20-year-old Belgium international will remain with Genk until the summer.

Predicted starting XIs:

Swansea: Vorm, Rangel, Williams, Monk, Taylor, Dyer, Allen, Britton, Agustien, Sinclair, Graham
Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Cahill, Luiz, Cole, Romeu, Essien, Malouda, Sturridge, Torres, Mata.

Chelsea captain has knee injury; Lampard remains sidelined

John Terry: First sustained knee injury in FA Cup win over Portsmouth

Chelsea captain John Terry will not be involved in his club's Premier League match against Swansea due to a knee injury.
The England defender, who on Wednesday is due to appear at West London Magistrates Court for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, has not travelled to Wales with the rest of his team-mates ahead of Tuesday's match.
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has revealed Terry has been carrying the injury for the majority of the month after he sustained the problem in the FA Cup win over Portsmouth on 8th January.
On Monday, the defender had to end training ahead of schedule and the centre-back's absence adds to an injured list which already includes Ramires, Frank Lampard and John Mikel Obi.
Villas-Boas has confirmed Terry will be missing at the Liberty Stadium, but with the England skipper having undergone MRI scans, the Chelsea boss is confident the player will be available for Sunday's match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Nothing serious

Terry's absence against Swansea could mean a debut for £7million man Gary Cahill, who earlier in January was signed from Bolton, alongside David Luiz.
"It's just a bone oedema that he has been carrying for some time since he collided with a post, if I am not wrong against Portsmouth, and this stops him a little bit," Villas-Boas told Chelsea TV of Terry.
"It's nothing serious, but something to keep an eye on. He has had an MRI before and he should be okay for Man United.
"We have a lot of positions covered of course, because of our squad, we have Gary and David available and competing and hopefully we can make the right decision."
Ramires was carried off during Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup win against Queens Park Rangers with medial ligament damage and is expected to be out for three to four weeks.
Rehabilitation
"It's unfortunate for the team, Rami is one of the most used players of the team with excellent individual performance and always helping the team to get results," said Villas-Boas.
"With what could have happened, it's just good news that he will be out for a short amount of time. Hopefully he will be available for the Napoli game, and hopefully before.
"On another front, Mikel will be out of the game and Lamps still out of the game.
"Frank's rehabilitation is going well, we are trying to reintroduce him gradually to the first-team activities.
"Frank felt that it was still a little bit soon to come back and went on to work with the physios, so hopefully after Swansea we will get him ready for the Man United game."

Rodgers - Terry no racist

Swansea boss defends Chelsea captain ahead of court case

Brendan Rodgers: Worked with John Terry at Chelsea

Brendan Rodgers says he knows John Terry isn't a racist after working with the defender during his time at Chelsea.
The 31-year-old has been charged with racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand during October's Premier League meeting between the sides, a charge he strenuously denies. The first hearing in the case is scheduled to take place at Westminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Terry won't be invovled in Tuesday's Premier League game against his former coach, when Chelsea travel to Swansea, as he has a knee injury.
Swansea boss Rodgers worked with Terry during his time as reserve and youth team manager at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2008, and spoke positively about the England captain's character.
Rodgers said: "He is a strong personality, John is a good man and from my time knowing him, and what he is being talked about in terms of the charges against him, I can safely say in my period of time working with him that he is not a racist, if that's what he's been pointed the finger as being.

Leader

"I have absolutely great confidence that is the case. He has been a wonderful leader for Chelsea and I have known him off the field as well and the number of players he helped evolve, dealing with ethnic minorities young and old, it was during the time I was there and I witnessed it, so I would say that is not the case with John.
"He is a public figure, he is the national captain and there have been a number of incidents that have drawn him to the publicity.
"But from my own experience he is a great man, off the field I had a terrific relationship with him through good and bad times, it wasn't always all smiles. I was able to speak my mind with him at times and tell him how I felt and I am sure he would say the same thing.
"I always found his communication open. He is a lover of football and he is happiest when he is on the field or with his family, and I have nothing but high praise for him as in that period when I was there he was a real icon for the football club on and off the field. I found him a terrific man.
"From my experience of knowing him quite well over that period of time I would say he is not a racist."

Blues medical for De Bruyne

Long-term target at Chelsea for medical on Monday

Kevin De Bruyne: Set for medical at Chelsea on Monday ahead of proposed £6.7million switch
Long-term Chelsea target Kevin De Bruyne is set to undergo a medical on Monday ahead of his move from Genk.
The 20-year-old winger is on the brink of joining the Blues from the Belgian champions in a reported £6.7million deal.
The five-and-a-half-year contract would also see him loaned back to his current team for the rest of the season.
Asked if De Bruyne was at Chelsea on Monday for a medical, a Genk spokesman said: "Yes, that is correct."
The spokesman also confirmed De Bruyne would see out the season with the club before returning to Chelsea in the summer.

Tricky

The winger would then have to convince manager Andre Villas-Boas to make him part of the Blues' first-team plans, which could be tricky.
Villas-Boas admitted on Friday that Chelsea's pursuit of De Bruyne - who would become their second January capture after Gary Cahill - had nothing to do with him.
Indeed, they were linked with the player before Villas-Boas took charge last summer.
The Portuguese, who insisted he had no problem with Chelsea's recruitment policy, said: "It's a target that's decided by the club, that I knew about for quite some time.
"He was under the scrutiny of the club for some time, we've been following this player.
"[Romelu] Lukaku the same, and Petr Cech was the same when he arrived in 2004.
"In the sense that it's the club policy for the future, it's the right thing (to buy him) and I'll do everything in my power for him to reach maximum potential.
"But it's down to the club in decision-making."

Hazard eyes English move

Playmaker intends to finish the current season with Lille

Eden Hazard: Intends to finish the season at Lille and eventually wants to play in the Premier League

Highly-rated playmaker Eden Hazard has confirmed he wants to move to the Premier League, but he intends to finish the season at Lille.
The Belgium international is among the most coveted young footballers in Europe and has been linked with a string of major clubs.
Inter Milan and Paris St Germain are rumoured to be admirers of the 21-year-old, while London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have regularly been credited with an interest.
However, Hazard has ruled out leaving Lille before the close of the January transfer window as he wants to remain part of the club's bid to successfully defend the Ligue 1 title.

Impossible

"No, it's impossible," he told Canal+ regarding rumours he could join PSG this month.
"I still have lots of things to do with Lille, we could win one or two trophies.
"I want to concentrate on my game and enjoy life with my public and my team. I am not leaving."
Hazard could depart at the conclusion of the campaign, though, and has admitted his preference is to play in the Premier League.
"I think I'm heading to England, the style of play suits me," he said.
"It is clear there are a lot of clubs interested in me. Paris? I have already said I would prefer to go abroad. I have [played in] over 100 Ligue 1 matches.
"Paris is tempting with the players there now but it's a considered decision."

Terry could be given time off

Villas-Boas considers all possibilities in search for 'justice'

John Terry: The Chelsea captain is alleged to have racially abused Anton Ferdinand

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed he will allow John Terry time off if required during the England captain's court case for alleged racial abuse.
The Blues defender has continued to play for both club and country since it was first alleged that he racially abused QPR defender Anton Ferdinand during October's Premier League game at Loftus Road.
Terry has faced jeers and taunts since then, never more so than during his return to Rangers in Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round tie, four days before his court case was due to begin at Westminster Magistrates Court.
Terry denies racially abusing Ferdinand, and should a magistrates trial take place during the season, his manager Villas-Boas will consider allowing Terry to take time off.
Villas-Boas said: "Eventually, if it is important for the justice, we will do it."
But the Chelsea boss insisted he would continue to play his captain as long as he continues to display the kind of form he showed at Loftus Road, with the defender not putting a foot wrong in Chelsea's 1-0 win.
"You have seen with the off-field events, we haven't stopped using John, and his level of performance has not been affected," he said.

Merciless

"If that continues to be the case, we will continue to do it."
QPR fans were merciless in their abuse of Terry but he wisely chose not to react.
Villas-Boas said: "He is a player that has been through various situations, situations of stress and great, difficult atmospheres.
"Bearing in mind the events that have happened in the past, he showed that this was just another game for him and he was just interested in football. He had an extremely good performance."
It also transpired that the pre-match handshakes between the players were cancelled after some of QPR's players revealed they were prepared to snub Terry en masse.
With the start of the defender's trial weeks or even months away, that raised the prospect of the same happening again when the sides meet in the league at the end of April.
The Premier League have confirmed both clubs would need to seek their permission to cancel the handshake.
Efficiency
Saturday also saw Chelsea keep a clean sheet for a third game in succession, something they would have taken for granted in years gone by but had not previously managed under Villas-Boas.
The Portuguese rejected suggestions it had taken longer than he had predicted for his players to absorb his ideas, insisting they had done so at the start of the season, jokingly crediting predecessor Carlo Ancelotti for that.
"So you would say that ideas were either quickly assimilated or the last manager still left his ideas," said the man who left Porto for Stamford Bridge last summer.
"I got it last year the same - we started winning so much and it was not me, it was the ideas of the old manager, the same."
Villas-Boas denied Chelsea had gone "back to basics" in 2012, as he added: "We got more solid, more confident on what we were doing.
"At the moment, we are conceding less but we continue to attack a lot.
"What has been our problem is finding that efficiency in front of goal to score more often to give us more comfortable leads."
Chelsea return to league action on Tuesday when they travel to Swansea looking to cut the gap to third-placed Tottenham.
Villas-Boas has ruled his side out of the title race but was confident they were fully motivated to finish the season strongly in the league, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
"I think our motivation must be playing game to game and ensuring Champions League (qualification), which is the minimum objective you can get," said Villas-Boas, who will be without Brazil midfielder Ramires for three to four weeks after scans on Sunday confirmed his medial ligament injury.
"We are not running away from our responsibilities. If you end up with no titles then it is a failure."

Steve Evans: Crawley will face Stoke in the FA Cup fifth round

Crawley welcome Stoke in the fifth round of the FA Cup, while favourites Chelsea host Birmingham, Liverpool take on Brighton, and Tottenham travel to Stevenage.
Steve Evans' Crawley, of League Two, got one of the draws they wanted after being pitched against last season's runners-up and Premier League side Stoke at Broadfield Stadium.
Andre Villas-Boas' Chelsea overcame QPR in a much-publicised fourth-round game and they will now meet former top-flight rivals Birmingham at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool's reward for Saturday's win over Manchester United will be a home game against Brighton, which sees the two teams renew a rivalry from this season's Carling Cup.

League One Stevenage defeated Notts County this weekend and were drawn against Premier League title-challenging Tottenham at Broadhall Way.
Sunderland and Middlesbrough require a replay to settle their derby after drawing 1-1 on Sunday and the winner will face either Arsenal or Aston Villa, who play in the late kick-off.
Everton play Blackpool or Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich and Leicester meet at Carrow Road, and Bolton will go to the winners of Millwall and Southampton.
All ties will played on the weekend of 18th or 19th February.
